Explore the enchanting cities of Marrakech and Fez, get lost in Kasbahs and visit idyllic mountain villages where you can meet communities and experience local culture. Delve into the alleyways of spice-scented souks, and gaze at a star-studded sky while enjoying an astronomy talk in the Sahara. This is a photography departure and will be led by National Geographic photographers.

Itinerary - 12 Days

1 Casablanca, Morocco

Arrive in Casablanca. Stroll through the city’s Habous district and the mechouar and gather for a welcome dinner.

2-3 Marrakech

Drive to Marrakech. See the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian Tombs, and visit Bahia Palace. Enjoy a dinner accompanied by traditional music. The next day, visit Majorelle Garden and the Berber Museum. Explore the medina, lined with market stalls and craftspeople; and soak up the colourful chaos of Djemma el Fna.

2-3 High Atlas Mountains

Head for the mountains and settle into the Kasbah du Toubkal. Explore the village and visit family homes and markets, and set off on a variety of hiking trails.

6-7 Aït Ben Haddou/Ouarzazate/Boumalne Dades

Cross the Tichka Pass en route to Aït Ben Haddou. Pay a visit to the adobe village of Aït Ben Haddou. Continue to Ouarzazate for the night, then follow the fabled Road of 1,000 Kasbahs to Boumalne Dades, where we'll take a walk in Dades Gorge.

8 Erfoud/Rissani/Merzouga

Visit the souk in Rissani on the way to Erfound, then ride a camel into the Saharan dunes at sunset. Settle into our comfortable Berber tented camp for an evening of stargazing and an astronomy talk.

9-12 Merzouga/Fez/Volubilis And Meknès

Travel north to Fez. Visit the Royal Palace and Fes el-Jdid, and venture into the labyrinthine old city to discover timeless souks and the exquisite 14th-century Bou Inania Madrasa. Spend a final day exploring Fez on your own, or take an optional excursion to the Roman ruins of Volubilis and Meknès. Gather for a farewell dinner with Sufi musical entertainment, and depart the next day.
